Our Frog Pond

Ever since we bought our house and moved here we loved the yard but knew we wanted to do something to improve it. It was neither private nor secure (no fence around most of the property), and most of it was un-useable. Since February ’09 we’ve been working with our contractor to get what we want out of our yard, and it’s coming to the final stages soon (we hope).

One of the things I thought would be awesome to have is a little pond that could house frogs. I love the sound of the frogs at my parents’ house where I grew up (they have a creek below their house), and I miss it. Josh loves the sound of frogs too, and we both thought that it would add a lot to the landscape, so we went ahead and did it. Our pond is about 3’4″ wide and about 5′ long. It has a tiny waterfall, and we love the sound it makes! The birds love it, too…we’ve seen our finches drinking from it and bathing in it every day.

We are looking forward to the different kinds of flowers we can grow because of the pond, too. We will probably have a water lily, maybe a water hyacinth, maybe a small pampas grass at the back of the pond, and we’ll see what else we can find for water gardens, too. We also might put little fish in the pond.
