An heirloom for Lillian
Recently my Mom told me she had gotten a baptismal gown from my Grandma that had been in storage at her house for many years. She asked if I’d be interested in using it for Lillian, or if I’d want to buy a new one. I didn’t have to stop to think for a moment! I was so super happy to hear that there was a family heirloom that Lillian could have! I couldn’t wait to see it!
The last time we were up at my parent’s house my Mom brought it out for me. It’s been beautifully wrapped in tissue paper, and still in its original box, wrapped with a pink ribbon. Grandma has taken very good care of it! There is a gorgeous little white jacket with lace on it and satin bows, and a beautiful bonnet trimmed in lace and satin. The gown itself is a two-piece affair; there is a sleeveless under-gown made of white satin, and an intricate and beautiful sheer gown to go over that. The embroidery and trim is exquisite! It also comes with a gorgeous crocheted blanket that has shimmery gold thread through parts of it.
Nobody can remember the exact provenance of the gown. We think my sisters and I had maybe worn it for our baptisms, and possibly even my Aunts, and maybe a generation or more before them, too. Even so, we know it’s been in the family for many years, so I think that counts as an heirloom. 😉 Makayla and Alyssa were older babies when they were baptized so they wouldn’t have fit in this gown; and of course Brendon and Mason couldn’t wear it, LOL! So Lillian will be the first in her generation to wear it.
We can’t wait to see her in it!
