Lillian’s 1st birthday!

Lillian’s first birthday party was such a fun day with family and friends! Lillian had a great time and we all loved celebrating her! Her birthday was on Memorial Day, so I chose the colors red, white, blue, and pink to celebrate her party. It worked out perfectly, because the day after I found out I was pregnant (before I even knew we were having a girl) I ordered a beautiful smocked red white and blue outfit with strawberries on it. It’s perfect for our strawberry girl’s first birthday! The unofficial theme for the party was red, white, blue, and strawberries. 🙂

In the next few days I’ll post recipes for the smash cake I baked her, and cupcakes, and sandwiches. For now, here are the pictures from her exciting, wonderful day! Thank you everyone for helping to make Lillian’s 1st birthday party such a fun and memorable day!

Morning snuggles with the birthday girl:

We had chicken salad sandwiches, and peanut butter and strawberry jam, and peanut butter and grape jelly sandwiches. There was homemade guacamole and tortilla chips, and vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting, and Lillian’s smash cake made out of whole wheat flour, applesauce, bananas, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. This was her first time eating cake or anything sweet, and we wanted to make it out of things she’s already tried and we knew she liked. 🙂 It was supposed to have a cream cheese/apple concentrate frosting, but I had just enough buttercream left over from the cupcakes and not enough time to make her frosting last minute, so I frosted her smash cake with the buttercream! I’m glad I did…she LOVED it! We didn’t let her eat too much of it – I wonder how long she would have kept eating it! 😉

This was so cute, my Dad took a bite of Lillian’s cake, and she looked up at him like “Grandpa, what are you doing with my cake?!”

Lillian had so much fun helping us to open all her wonderful presents everyone got her!

It was such a perfect day that we’ll always remember! We look forward to telling Lillian about it someday. She’ll have these pictures and some home video to look at too! We’re so proud of our beautiful, perfect little girl! It’s so amazing that she went from a tiny newborn to a one-year old right before our eyes. She’s such a blessing, and we’re so grateful to celebrate her birth and her health. (Which is extraordinary by the way…she’s not been sick or had any colds or ear infections EVER in her first year of life! She only even had a mild diaper rash for a few hours once when she was a newborn and had diarrhea. What we thought might have been turning into a cold once when she was 5 or 6 months old turned out to be nothing at all!) We’re so blessed and thankful. HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY LILLIAN EVE!
