Natural food for babies

It can be intimidating, in a lot of ways, for first time parents to feed their baby. At first you worry about choking, so you chop the pieces of food as small as you can. Then, if you’re like me, you worry WHAT to feed your baby (I’m lucky that I’m still breast feeding though or I’d be a lot MORE worried about how much food Lillian eats), and how often, etc.

It’s easy to buy organic purees and chicken nuggets and things like that, and we do feed Lillian those things. But we also wanted to feed her more ‘real’ food; food that isn’t overly processed. When we actually make meals for ourselves that don’t come out of a box (been hard to find the time) we’ll chop up some of it for Lillian.

One thing we’ve decided to do more regularly though is to buy fresh vegetables. Earlier this week we made zucchini for Lillian and she just loved it! Go buy some fresh zucchinis, put them in your fridge to have on hand for meal times! It’s super easy and fast to prepare, and Lillian couldn’t get enough of it!

Just wash the zucchini, cut it into slices, dice up the slices into little cubes, then put them in a microwaveable bowl (or a pan on the stovetop if you’re not pressed for time. My goal in the near future is to rely on my microwave less and less for my family’s meals!) and add a tiny splash of water. Put a pat of butter in the bowl, and a dash of salt and pepper, and heat for a few minutes, until the zucchinis are soft and tender. Your little one will love it! And we love it this way too, but we leave ours as slices instead of dicing them. 😉

Give your baby some small pieces of cooked chicken, some cheese, and these zucchinis…with maybe a yogurt or an applesauce as well, and you’ve got a well-rounded meal easy to eat. 🙂
