signs of life

Here is a photo of a nest that a pair of house finches are building in our fire alarm. So cute! Today we also saw the return of one of the Hooded Orioles that used to swarm our nectar feeders before all the construction on our yard. Josh went out as soon as he flew away and took off one of the hummingbird flower ports so the oriole’s beak would fit in (the hummers still drink from the hole that’s missing a flower, too, so it works out for everyone!); we hope he comes back and tells all of the other orioles it’s safe to come back here now too!

Josh mowed the lawn again today…it looks great!

While he did that, I planted our two blueberry bushes (Sunshine Blue and Misty) in containers with equal parts peat moss, an acidic mix (azalea/camellia food), and pathway bark. Next to those I planted our two raspberry varieties: Heritage and Willamette. I added a little of the acidic mix, compost, and sure start in those planting holes. Josh and I set up the drip irrigation to those as well.

It’s exciting to see some of the fruits actually forming in our “orchard” too! Here is the Red Baron peach:
