Memory Mondays – Week 6 (by Josh)
These are some of my favorite photos that we took of our beautiful gray cat Shadow in April 2007. She is such a big part of our family and we feel very strongly about always keeping her safe inside with us. Previously, we had gotten her some of the indoor pet grass and she loved to chomp big pieces from it. The only problem was that the grasses from the store would always seem to bring home lots of little flies and gnats so we stopped getting them. One day we were just outside our living room sliding glass door and poor Shadow was looking out at us very sadly.
Shadow is so bonded to us that she gets very upset if we’re ever somewhere that she can’t follow. Even if Rachel and I are on a different level or room in the house from her she’ll howl and look around desperately for us. When we arrive home from an outing we can always count on her to be howling from inside the kitchen as soon as we pull into the garage. We love to have such a special bond with our adorable rescued kitty.
Rachel and I reluctantly let Shadow come out with us and enjoy our own natural grass. The lawn hadn’t been mowed for a while so it was nice and long for her to take bites from. Shadow was a bit uneasy to be outside but she seemed to love to be close to us and try some of our very own grass that she loves to look at through the windows. After every bite of the grass Shadow would look up at us to check on us and make sure everything was still safe.
We wanted to document this first experience for her and Rachel had brought the camera out. I love this photo she got of Shadow just after eating some grass! We like to say that Shadow is making faces for the camera in this photo. Shadow requested to go back inside after just a couple of minutes and we were very glad to have her safe and sound back in the house
